Naturally Captivating
Immerse yourself in the natural splendor of the island.
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished” – Lao Tzu
Little Palm Island with its unique location in the heart of the Florida Keys archipelago offers a verdant and sun-drenched island respite for not only our guests but also for our indigenous wildlife. Our picturesque island sets the scene for a natural and inspiring experience. With no distractions, bask in the serene sounds of rustling palms and gently lapping waves. This is a tranquil paradise, for our guests and for nature’s residents.
Key Deer
Walk along our winding paths covered in finely crushed seashells and you may come across our most captivating resident, the petite Key Deer. This endangered species is native to the surrounding islands and you may even find them swimming the canal from a nearby mangrove forest. These friendly deer will draw you in with their big doe eyes and easy-going demeanor. But please, do not touch or feed the deer. It is imperative that we do not disrupt their diet and delicate immune system.
Birds
Much like our guests who take flight to the Florida Keys to escape the cold, we are an important stop for many species of birds during migration season. Little Palm Island is close to one of only two fresh water sources in the Florida Keys. Take the opportunity to float quietly in one of our kayaks through mystical mangrove forests. Soon you will find yourself in a subtropical aviary, with hundreds of species of birds on full display. We’ve provided binoculars and a reference guide in your suite. Take them along!
The Underwater World
Get Lost and journey out into the azure waters just beyond our island shores for an even more captivating experience. The Florida Keys is home to the 3rd largest coral barrier reef in the world and just a short excursion away by boat you can visit Looe Key Reef, one of the best protected snorkel sites off the Florida Keys. It is here at this colorful reef you will encounter a majestic underwater world teeming with tropical fish, sea turtles and dolphins. If you prefer to stick close to shore, you may still see the occasional pod of dolphins coming to feed in the protected bay or a manatee floating along the docks.
The sanctuary surrounding our island is important to us.
